Due to the hot, dry weather, and the affects of a dry winter, the forests have become dangerously dry.
A TOTAL fire ban is in effect, at present. See the Town of Kearney website for updated forest fire warning ratings. www.townofkearney.com

Counci Meeting April 13th update
There were many concerns and questions raised by the
public at the recent council meeting (April 13th).
Property Standards Septic Inspection Program - Concern was voiced regarding the Property Standards Septic Inspection program that will begin this spring. An information meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 7 pm for all. This program is a multi-year project. This year, about 150 properties located in the “old town” will be looked at. Information packages and a report will be given to each property owner. A key part of this program is increasing awareness and providing education regarding water quality and septic maintenance. Future information sessions are also planned.
The meeting had many residents in attendance. There were three delegations, and some interesting questions at question period.

West Bay Bridge – previously we had heard opinions and
concerns about the bridge but without the latest bridge report, we were unable
to answer the questions from the public. We were at the April 13th
meeting, able to refer to the bridge inspection report of Fall 2011, to report
that the bridge is sound, minor repairs to the guard rails is due to be done
within 1 to 5 years, and that the cribs are in good condition. All bridges will
be reinspected in the summer of 2013.
Building department issues – Various concerns regarding
building permits, the level of growth in the town and outstanding permits was
raised. In response to the public's concern, a survey will be undertaken and a public meeting scheduled shortly.
However, I remind you that building permits and inspections are part of a
requirement under the Ontario Building Code Act, an Ontario standard. This
process is for your safety and protection, from shoddy construction, improper
design for our area, and other flaws. I fully support our CBO, and believe that
building without a permit should have significant penalties.
